Mexican crooner Julio Iglesias is returning to the United States for several performances, following his long running 2008 tour. Iglesias will give three performances in Florida in February 2009. The first will take place at Ruth Eckerd Hall in Clearwater, Florida on February 11, the second at the American Airlines Arena in Miami, Florida on February 14, and the third at the King Center for the Performing Arts in Melbourne, Florida on February 15.

Julio Iglesias is one of the most well known Latin American music artists. His international presence rose from 1979 to the 1990s when he began releasing albums in languages other than his native Spanish. He is best known in the English-speaking world for his number one hit "Begin the Beguine," compilation album Julio, and crossover album 1100 Bel Air Place. Iglesias has recorded a number of duets with American musicians, including Willie Nelson, Stevie Wonder, and Diana Ross. Iglesias has since returned to recording in Spanish only, but continues to tour internationally. Since beginning his career, he has released over 100 albums, sold 250 million copies of his work, and played about 5,000 concerts.

About Julio Iglesias

Julio Iglesias was born on September 23, 1943 in Madrid, Spain. Although an avid soccer player in his youth, a car paralyzing accident in the 1960s cut short any hopes of pursuing such a career. Iglesias initally went to law school before suffering his injuries. In order to rehabilitate, and among other therapies, he learned how to play the guitar, and began writing his own songs. By 1968, he had won a international Spanish song festival in Benidorm, and began touring.

Iglesias' fame rose throughout the 1970s and he released such hits as "Manuela." In 1978, CBS International approached him about signing a contract to produce albums in English, Portugese, French, and German, and he shortly thereafter released his first English song "Begin the Beguine." This began the period where Julio Iglesias was at the peak of his popularity. He recorded several more English hits, including a compilation album Julio and duets with several American artists, including The Beach Boys and The Pointer Sisters.

Other duets performed in lnclude "To All the Girls I've Loved Before" with Willie Nelson, "All of You" with Diana Ross, and "My Love" with Stevie Wonder. Following his success in the 1980s, Julio Iglesias returned to recording in Spanish only. Despite the transition, however, Iglesias has remained a popular Latin singer. He has had a number of hit albums, including 1996's Tango, 2003's Divorcio, and 2006's Romantic Classics. The latter album has been Iglesias' highest Billboard charting album thus far, debuting at #31. Julio Iglesias tours have also continued, allowing him to tally up over 1,500 concerts.

Julio Iglesias has eight children, two of whom, Enrique Iglesias and Julio Iglesias, Jr., have followed him into music. His first child, Chabeli Iglesias, is a reporter in the Washington, D.C. area. He was married to Isabel Preysler during the 1970s and is now engaged to dutch model Miranda Rijnsburger.
