Justin Timberlake has pursued many career paths since being a Mouseketeer in the early 1990s. Timberlake joined The Mickey Mouse Club in 1993, and appeared alongside Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, and future bandmate JC Chasez. After the show ended in 1995, Timberlake and Chasez joined forces and formed what would become 'N Sync.
During the years they were active, Justin Timberlake and 'N Sync rose from obscurity to a household name. In 1998, the band released *NSYNC, which sold 11 million copies and included hit singles such as Tearing Up My Heart. After a two year legal battle with manager Lou Pearlman, the band signed with Jive Records, and released their second album, No Strings Attached in March 2000. In 2001, 'N Sync released the album Celebrity. After the completion of a tour in 2002 in support of Celebrity, the group decided to take time off. However, they has not gotten back together since, and in 2007, bandmate Lance Bass confirmed that 'N Sync had broken up.
After 'N Sync went on hiatus, Justin Timberlake started recording his first solo album, and in November 2002 released Justified. Though it ultimately sold fewer copies than 'N Sync albums, it debuted at number two on the Billboard 200 chart, and went on to sell seven million copies worldwide. Timberlake went on tour in support of the album in the summer of 2003, co-headlining with Christina Aguilera. At the end of 2003, Timberlake recorded a song entitled, "I'm Lovin' It," which was used by McDonalds for a marketing campaign.
In February 2004, Justin Timberlake performed during the halftime show of SuperBowl XXXVIII with Janet Jackson, during which he tore off part of Jackson's black leather costume. Part of the costume became detached, and the "wardrobe malfunction" controversy ensued. After the Superbowl, Timberlake took time off from recording music to act in several films. Timberlake appeared in Edison Force, Alpha Dog, Black Snake Moan, Southland Tales, and as the voice of young King Arthur in Shrek the Third.
In September 2006, Justin Timberlake released his second solo album, FutureSex/LoveSounds, which debuted at number one on the Billboard chart. The album has spun off three number one singles, including the popular SexyBack. After the release of the album, Timberlake went on the "FutureSex/LoveShow" tour to promote the album. Since the end of the tour, Timberlake has resumed acting in films, starring in The Love Guru and The Open Road. In March 2008, it was announced that Timberlake will be an executive producer on the NBC adaptation of the Peruvian comedy My Problem with Women. Also in March, the single 4 Minutes was released, a duet with Madonna that comes from the singer's eleventh album Hard Candy.
