Before American Idol, Kellie Pickler was just another girl from a small town in North Carolina. Young Kellie had a rough childhood; abandoned by her mother and father, Kellie Pickler lived with her grandparents most of her life. In spite of a very tough emotional life, Kellie was a cheerleader and competed for the title of Miss North Carolina in 2004. Kellie successfully graduated from high school, singing a song by LeAnn Rimes at her graduation. At age 19, she auditioned alongside thousands of other people nationwide for the chance to be on American Idol. Pickler moved up in the ranks of contestants, eventually making the show and becoming one of Simon Cowell's favorite contestants. Cowell even said during the competition that he preferred Kellie Pickler to Carrie Underwood (the winner of the season prior). Though she didn't end up winning the title of the fifth season's American Idol (that honor went to Taylor Hicks), Kellie Pickler has become a very successful music artist.
After her American Idol appearance, Kellie Pickler found that the limelight hadn't been extinguished. Almost immediately after her elimination, she made appearances on many television shows and received a hero's welcome in her hometown of Albemarle, North Carolina. Pickler has never been one to let opportunity pass her by, and she set her sights on Nashville, the epicenter of country music. In the summer of 2006, the American Idol favorite signed with BNA Records and announced the record deal on the TV talk show The View. That same summer, Kellie Pickler toured with fellow American Idols all around the country while simultaneously writing and recording her first album, Small Town Girl. Pickler's debut album was released in the fall of 2006 and it topped Billboard's Top Country Albums, in addition to sitting pretty at #9 on the Billboard Top 200. Pickler received reward nominations for her first album in the form of a CMT Video Award and an Academy of Country Music Award.
In 2007, Kellie Pickler performed with country music sensation Brad Paisley on his Bonfires & Amplifiers tour. Kellie has since performed at several music awards shows, appeared on the TV Show "Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader" with Jeff Foxworthy, visited US troops, and released her sophomore album Kellie Pickler. In addition to that, Pickler was featured as a special correspondent on the 2008 "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve With Ryan Seacrest" on ABC. In 2009 Pickler hit the road again with her best friend Taylor Swift.
