Kevin Hart was born on July 6, 1979, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where he and his older brother were raised by their single mother. Hart’s father, a drug addict, was in and out of jail for most of Hart’s childhood. To help deal with the family struggles he endured growing up, Hart used his ability to make people laugh as a coping mechanism.
After graduating community college in New York, Hart moved to the Boston suburbs and then back to his native Philadelphia, where he found work as a shoe salesman. Knowing comedy was something he wanted to pursue, Hart began performing in small comedy clubs around the city, under the stage name, Lil’ Kev. At first, Hart was often booed off stage with subpar performances, but after guidance from fellow Philadelphia comedian, Keith Robinson, Hart began to develop his own unique style. Soon, he was winning comedy competitions around the city.
As Hart rose to prominence as a standup comedian in the mid-2000s, he began to receive small movie roles and for a short time even had his own sitcom, The Big house, on ABC. However, his career really skyrocketed in 2009 when he began traveling the country on comedy tours. As of 2016, Hart has starred in movies, such as Ride Along, The Wedding Ringer, and Get Hard. Hart also created and stars in the television hit, Real Husbands of Hollywood. In 2015, Hart embarked on his “What Now?” tour, bringing laughs to people across the country.
