Five-time Tony winner Audra McDonald takes the role of jazz great Billie Holiday in the Broadway premier of Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar and Grill this spring. McDonald embodies the singer in this one-woman show depicting the life of Lady Day and the events leading to her death in 1959, just four months after her last performance.

This adaption of the play, written by Lanie Robertson and directed by Lonny Price, lets the audience be absorbed into the action. The closest sections consist of tables, making the audience feel as though they are right there at the Emerson Bar and Grill! Previews for this play began on March 25, 2014 with the official opening night on April 13, 2014.
