About Larry the Cable Guy
Author of the catchphrases "Git-R-Done!" and "Lord, I Apologize," Nebraska pig-farm-raised Larry the Cable Guy has become one of the hottest tickets in comedy. With a large and devoted fan base, Larry the Cable Guy draws folks by the pickup truckload to his stand up comedy routines.
Daniel Lawrence Whitney, or as he is better known Larry the Cable Guy, was born in Pawnee City, Nebraska on February 16, 1963. He and his family moved to West Palm Beach, FL when he was 13 years old, and Larry the Cable Guy worked for a year at the local Wendy's and then at the Ramada Inn. When he was 16, Larry the Cable Guy accepted a dare from a friend to perform a stand up comedy routine at a local club and immediately became hooked.
In 1988, Larry the Cable Guy quit his job and hit the road to begin performing at various comedy clubs. He took that experience and developed his own unique brand of high energy, one-liner comedy that kept audiences laughing. Larry the Cable Guy landed appearances on several comedy radio shows where he would call in using a fictitious persona. Larry the Cable Guy is actually one such character, who has pervaded the life of the actual Daniel Whitney to the point where the lines between the two have become so blurred that it is impossible to tell where Whitney ends and Larry begins. Either way, Larry the Cable Guy became a very popular character, and soon after his early success, he landed appearances on Evening at The Improv, Showtime, MTV, and Comedy Central.
Larry the Cable Guy really hit it big in 2000 when he was invited to join the Blue Collar Comedy Tour along with fellow Southern comedians Jeff Foxworthy, Bill Engvall, and Ron White. The four "good ol' boys" share stories of their wives, family, and past experiences, with each putting his own spin on it. The Blue Collar Comedy Tour was turned into a film that aired on Comedy Central in 2002, and became the television program "Blue Collar TV" in 2004.
Along with stand up comedy and his radio career, Larry the Cable Guy has found his way to the big screen. In addition to the feature film length Blue Collar Comedy Tour: The Movie, Larry the Cable Guy has also starred in Larry the Cable Guy: Health Inspector in 2006, the Pixar animated film Cars as the voice of Mater in 2006, and in Delta Farce with fellow Blue Collar Comedian Bill Engvall in 2007.
