About Larry the Cable Guy

In 1963, Daniel Lawrence Whitney was born in Pawnee City, Nebraska. When he was 16, Whitney accepted a dare from a friend to perform a standup comedy routine at a local comedy club. The act was a hit, and in 1988 the future Larry the Cable Guy quit his job to pursue a career in entertainment.

With his one-liner jokes, Dan Whitney began to appear on comedy radio shows. He called radio stations using a fictitious persona, such as Larry the Cable Guy, the cable installer. The character of Larry the Cable Guy was a huge hit. Soon he landed appearances on Evening at The Improv, Showtime, MTV, and Comedy Central.

In 2000, Larry the Cable Guy joined the Blue Collar Comedy Tour with Jeff Foxworthy, Bill Engvall, and Ron White. Two years later, The Blue Collar Comedy Tour became a Comedy Central movie. In addition, the experience led to a television program called Blue Collar TV. Larry the Cable Guy went on to act in other TV shows such as Larry the Cable Guy's Christmas Spectacular and 2008's Larry the Cable Guy's Star Studded Christmas Extravaganza.

Larry the Cable Guy starred in several comedy movies, such as Blue Collar Comedy Tour: The Movie and Larry the Cable Guy: Health Inspector. He worked on the Pixar animated film Cars as the voice of Mater and appeared in Delta Farce with fellow Blue Collar Comedian Bill Engvall. His recent slapstick humor movie, Witless Protection, came out in 2008 and costarred Jenny McCarthy.
