This musical is a sassy modern retelling of Lysistrata, a classic Greek comedy by Aristophanes. Instead of Greek women and warriors, this show stars cheerleaders and basketball players! With a book by Douglas Carter Beane (Sister Act and Xanadu) and music by Lewis Finn, this show is a fun, energy-filled romp.
In the Greek comedy that inspired this peppy new musical, the women of Athens decide to withhold sex from their warrior husbands until they agree to stop going off to war. In Lysistrata Jones, the cheerleaders learn that they have the same power as those Greek ladies of so long ago. The Athens University basketball team hasn't won a game in 30 years and new student Lysistrata Jones thinks that is unacceptable! She convinces the cheerleader girlfriends of the team to stop "giving it up" until the boys win a game, and hilarity ensues.
