Magic Johnson and Larry Bird were both professional basketball players in the NBA during the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s. Beginning with the 1979 NCAA Basketball Championship Game, the two had a widely publicized rivalry, later accentuated by the existing rivalry between their respective teams, the Boston Celtics and the Los Angeles Lakers. The two became friends off the court, but on the court was a friendly but intense competition that some have credited with saving the NBA during the 1980s. Witness the rivalry onstage with Magic/Bird tickets.
This play, written by Eric Simonson, recreates the infamous rivalry and one of the tightest friendships in sports history. Based on conversations with Larry Bird and Magic Johnson, the show illustrates how the two overcame many differences to become great friends and big NBA stars.
