About Manny Pacquiao

After starting his professional career in 1995 at age 16, Manny Pacquiao rose quickly in the sport, fighting against Edmund Ignacio, Rustico Torrecampo, and Chatchai Sasakul. He won his first title, the IBF Super Bantamweight title, against defending champion Lehlohonolo Ledwaba; he went on to defend this title four times. In the fight that brought him to widespread fame, Pacquiao went up against Marco Antonio Barrera. The fight went on until Manny Pacquiao defeated Barrera by technical knockout in the 11th round. He was recognized as a world champion afterward.

Early in the following year, Pacquiao faced Juan Manuel Marquez in his first Featherweight division title. Although Pacquiao lost in the later rounds, the match was controversially declared a draw. In 2005, Pacquiao rose to the Superfeatherweight division and fought Erik Morales for the title but lost. However, later that year, Pacquiao won the title in a match against Hector Velazquez. Manny Pacquiao would go on to defend the title six times over the next two years, including in two more rematches against Erik Morales at the Thomas and Mack Center and MGM Grand Garden Arena, as well as Juan Manuel Marquez, a rematch against Marco Antonio Barrera, and matches against Oscar Larios and Jorge Solis.

In 2008, Manny Pacquiao rose to the Lightweight division with a win against David Diaz at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. In total, Pacquiao has won titles in four divisions. Pacquiao is a native of the Philippines and continues to this day to be one of the most popular boxers in the world.
