About Martina McBride
Martina Mariea Schiff McBride was born July 29, 1966, in Medicine Lodge, Kansas. Her parents owned a dairy farm outside of nearby Sharon, where Martina lived until she graduated from high school. McBride began singing in the family band "The Schiffters," who played at local dances in South-Central Kansas. After high school, she sang and playing keyboards with several different bands.
It wasn't until McBride met her husband, soundman John McBride, that she received her big break. In 1990, the McBrides moved to Nashville, where John worked for artists like Charlie Daniels and Ricky Van Shelton. John helped Martina to produce her demo tape, which she sent to RCA. The record company was impressed with her talent and signed McBride to RCA in 1991.
Her first album, The Time Has Come, was released on May 15, 1992, and her first opening gig, for Garth Brooks in Denver, was just two weeks later. Her commercial breakthrough came with the release of her second album, The Way That I Am, which reached platinum. The lead single from this album, "My Baby Loves Me," reached #2 on the country charts.
The title track from the singer's next album, 1995's Wild Angels, was her first #1 hit. Currently, McBride has one gold, five platinum, and a double- and two triple-platinum albums under her belt, including 1997's Evolution, 2003's Martina, 2005's Timeless, and 2007's Waking Up Laughing. McBride released her latest album, Shine, in 2009.
