About Mary Poppins

Mary Poppins the musical is based on the musical Disney film which starred Julie Andrews as Mary Poppins and Dick Van Dyke as Bert the chimney sweep. The movie was transformed into a musical in 2004 and in 2006 was brought to Broadway. In the Disney musical, the mysterious Mary Poppins arrives at the Banks' family household at Number Seventeen Cherry Tree Lane, London to care for the children after their latest nanny quits out of exasperation. Mr. Banks, after advertising for a new nanny, is greeted by Mary Poppins who floats down on her umbrella and takes it upon herself to appoint herself as the Banks' new nanny.

The Banks children, Jane and Michael are fascinated by the bottomless satchel that Mary Poppins brings into their home and are mesmerized that Mary Poppins has the powers to make their bedrooms come to life and clean up themselves. Throughout the musical, Mary Poppins takes the Banks children on many adventures including a tea party in the sky and a tour of the rooftops of London after the children get sucked up into the chimney and onto their roof. Mr. Banks is not a fan of these adventures, but each time he tried to dispose of Mary Poppins, his job comes calling and she takes it upon herself to step back in.

Mr. Banks ends up getting fired from his job and begins to realize that he's missing out on his children growing up. After this realization, he returns home a changed man. In the end, he earns his job back and the Banks family is happy once again. Now that Mary Poppin's job has concluded, it is time for her to leave and she floats away on her magical umbrella.
