Originating in Orlando, Florida, the members of Matchbox Twenty could have never predicted the kind of success they have seen. From having a diamond certified debut album to selling more than 44 million albums worldwide, Matchbox Twenty has earned its way to being one of the most popular bands of today.!
Matchbox Twenty members Rob Thomas, Brian Yale and Paul Doucette began their days playing music together as part of the band Tabitha's Secret in Orlando, Florida. The trio's chemistry together as bandmates was unmistakable, and when they broke off with the other members of Tabitha's Secret, they remained together to form their new band. They recruited guitarist Adam Gaynor and guitarist Kyle Cook to complete their new band, Matchbox Twenty. It was 1996 when Matchbox Twenty released their debut album You or Someone Like You. The album included multiple singles that received heavy radio air play in the years following the albums release, including "Long Day," "3 AM," and "Push." In US sales alone, Matchbox Twenty sold over 12 million copies of You or Someone Like You earning the Recording Industry Association of America's diamond status.
The follow up album from Matchbox Twenty was Mad Season (2000). While it didn't reach the astronomical heights of its predecessor, Mad Season had its own success. It peaked at #3 on the Billboard charts while being certified four times platinum. It also featured the only Billboard Hot 100 #1 single from Matchbox Twenty with the release of "Bent" in 2000. The album also saw two other charted singles with "If You're Gone" reaching #5 and "Mad Season" peaking at #48. Other Matchbox Twenty albums include More Than You Think You Are (2002) and Exile on Mainstream (2007), both of which charted in the top ten.
