About Maze

Maze

Current Tour:Changing Times
First Album:Maze featuring Frankie Beverly (1977)
Resources: Official Website

Maze was officially founded in 1976 by band front man, Frankie Beverly, who serves as the band’s songwriter, singer, keyboardist, and guitarist. In 1970, Beverly initially started the group under the name Raw Soul, who failed to produce any major hits in their first six years of existence. In 1976 the band relocated to San Francisco, changed their name to Maze and were introduced to Marvin Gaye. Marvin Gaye invited Maze to go on the road and serve as one of his opening acts, which led to the band’s immediate success.

That year, the band signed a deal with Capital Records and soon after, released their debut album, Maze featuring Frankie Beverly in 1977. The album included hits, such as “While I’m Alone,” “Lady of Magic,” and “Happy Feelin’s.” Since the gold album was released, Maze went on to drop seven more albums, with their most recent album coming out over 20 years ago in 1993. Even though Maze has not come out with an album in quite some time, they continue to play shows across the United States, and 2015 is no exception.
