About Memphis Tickets

The 2010 Tony Award winner for Best Musical, Memphis was the final work developed by the late theatre producer George W. George. With the concept for a new musical in his head, George sought out Bon Jovi guitarist David Bryan and writer Joe DiPietro to bring his idea to life. Even with a talented creative team, Memphis first ran as a musical at small-scale theaters in Beverly, MA, and Mountain View, CA, during the 2003-2004 season. Following these two productions, the musical was reworked before being brought back to the stage in 2008 and finally got the green light to open on Broadway in 2009.

Memphis opened on Broadway on October 19, 2009, at the Shubert Theatre. The original Broadway cast included a majority of the cast members who had starred in the pre-Broadway productions including Chad Kimball and Montego Glover portraying the roles of Huey Calhoun and Felicia Farrell, respectively. Besides taking home the Tony Award for Best Musical, Memphis also won awards for Best Book of a Musical and Best Original Score. The musical received high praise for its music and critics could not stop raving about the performances of both Kimball and Glover. The Broadway production closed on August 5, 2012, after almost three years, but the national US tour has audiences across the country with Memphis the Musical tickets loving this fresh new hit.

Memphis Plot Summary

Memphis is the story of the love between a white DJ and black singer in the segregated American south during the 1950s. The story is loosely based on the life of Memphis disc jockey Dewey Phillips, who was one of the first white DJs to play what at the time was considered to be "black music." The musical centers on the relationship between DJ Huey Calhoun and the aspiring singer Felicia Farrell as both characters struggle to build careers and fight racial discrimination. At its core, Memphis is a story full of heart and audiences with Memphis tickets across the nation love it, making this musical a hit.
