About the Miami Dolphins

Although the city is also home of the Heat of the NBA and the Marlins of MLB, Miami is a football town. As you walk through the streets of South Beach, you will undoubtedly see NFL jerseys emblazoned with the Dolphins logo as fans show their pride in their team. From Don Shula to Dan Marino, the team has rich history that this year's roster will look to build on.

That history begins in 1966 when the Miami Dolphins joined the American Football League (AFL) as an expansion team. Like many expansion teams do, the Dolphins did not see much success in their first few years on the field. In 1970, as the AFL and NFL officially merged into one league, the Dolphins hired legendary head coach Don Shula to lead the fledgling team. His hiring immediately paid off. The team went to the Super Bowl three consecutive years from 1971 to 1973, winning two of them including going undefeated in 1972.

Following those championship years, the team fell back to mediocrity, making the postseason just four times in eight seasons without winning a single playoff game in that span.

After making it back to the Super Bowl in 1982, the team used their first round selection to take quarterback Dan Marino. After stumbling out the gate in 1983, Marino took over as the starting quarterback, a position he would keep for nearly the next two decades. Marino's best season came in 1984, when he threw a then-record 48 touchdown passes and a then-record 5,078 yards. He led to Dolphins once again to the Super Bowl last year, which was the last time the franchise made it to the NFL's biggest stage.

The Dolphins continue to strive to reach that championship level once again and you can be there to watch their journey by getting tickets to a Dolphins game this season. TicketNetwork.com provides you with a large selection of seats to choose from, so you get the one that is just right for you!
