About the Miami Marlins

Home Stadium: Marlins Park

Seating Capacity:36,742
Address:501 Marlins Way
Miami, FL 33125

Along with the Colorado Rockies, Major League Baseball officially added the Marlins to the league in 1993. For the majority of their existence, the team carried the moniker Florida Marlins, before changing their name to the Miami Marlins prior to the 2012 season. The name change corresponded with a move to Marlins Park, their new state-of-the-art stadium, the same year. The stadium can hold nearly 37,000 Marlins fans and has a few extremely unique features not seen at any other stadium in sports. The first feature sits behind home plate, where two fish tanks were built into the backstop. The tanks are made with bullet-proof glass which prevents any errant baseballs from breaking the glass. The second feature at Marlins Park that is impossible not to notice is the home run machine beyond the center field wall. The structure features light and water displays, as well as multiple moving parts, that are triggered each time a Marlins player hits a home run. Needless to say, going to a game at Marlins Park is a unique experience for anyone.

Prior to moving into Marlins Park, the team played at Sun Life Stadium (formally known as multiple different names) and it was there that the franchise saw its greatest success winning two World Series titles. The first came in 1997, when the Marlins beat the Cleveland Indians in seven games, ultimately ending the series on a Edgar Renteria RBI single in the bottom of the 11th inning. The second championship came in 2003, this time the team was led by a dominating performance by young ace pitcher Josh Beckett who shut down the Yankees in two starts and won the World Series MVP.

The team is looking to get back to being a World Series caliber ballclub and are relying young stars like Jose Fernandez and Giancarlo Stanton to get them there.
