Mudvayne began as a rap-metal group in 1996, formed in Peoria, IL. Three of the original members (Chad Gray, Greg Tribbet, and Matthew McDonough) remain with Mudvayne, along with bassist Ryan Martinie, who joined Mudvayne in 1998. Mudvayne gained public notice, a manager, and a recording contract in 1998 after performing at a few music showcases in Illinois. After that, it wasn't long before Mudvayne hit the mainstream in 2000, with their first hit single called "Dig" from Mudvayne's first album L.D. 50. The group's second album, The End of All Things to Come (released in 2002), saw some changes with the band. Mudvayne changed the freakish stage makeup of prior performances to embrace their new stage personas: aliens. During 2002 and 2003, Mudvayne went on the "Summer Sanatrium Tour 2003," whose opening act was the world-famous Metallica. The tour in 2003 had excellent ticket sales, thanks to Metallica's well-known name, and Mudvayne developed an even wider audience. Interestingly, by the end of 2003, Mudvayne abandoned its extravagant makeup. But when Mudvayne took the stage at Ozzfest in 2005, the lead singer wore a monkey suit without a head and was spattered in blood throughout the performance, with bandmates wearing similarly perplexing ensembles. Later that year, Mudvayne's 2005 singles from Lost and Found found their way into video games, WWE tournaments, TV shows, and films. These new avenues for exposure greatly impacted the ticket sales for Mudvayne concerts and catapulted their album sales that year. Their fourth studio album, The New Game, was released in 2008, and a self-titled album was released the following year.
The news coming from Mudvayne had been a little slow because the front man for the group, Chad Gray, started a side project/band called "HellYeah." HellYeah is comprised of members from Pantera, Damageplan, Nothingface and Mudvayne. These talents of metal got together for a musical project that has an incredibly unique sound. HellYeah combines aesthetics such as rock, southern metal, contemporary, and classic.
