Wilder Mind (2015)
Mumford and Sons traveled the globe last summer in support of their 2015 album, Wilder Mind. Then, the folk rock band announced a new tour for 2016 that took the group through Middle America. Fittingly titled “An Arrow Through the Heartland Tour,” Mumford and Sons kicked off their month-long trek at Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion in Houston on April 3. The tour then made stops across the Midwest and South, stopping at venues such as Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Coliseum at Alliant Energy Center in Madison, WI, Verizon Arena in Little Rock, among many more, before wrapping up at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis on April 23.
Mumford and Sons were just as excited about the “An Arrow Through the Heartland Tour” as their fans. Band member Ben Lovett released a statement on the Mumford and Sons website stating, “touring the United States of America in many ways fulfills the childhood dream of what touring might be like. Rolling from one great city to the next, each with its own personality and uniqueness whilst remaining familiar enough at the same time. Waking up every morning with a conversation amongst us about who wants to visit ‘that’ bookshop or ‘the’ ultimate music shop or whatever the various cities had to offer.”
To coincide with their appearance at Austin City Limits Music Festival this fall, Mumford and Sons is set to launch an eight-date tour in the western half of the United States. Stops include at Usana Amphitheatre in Salt Lake City, Isleta Amphitheater in Albuquerque, and Sleep Train Amphitheatre in Chula Vista, CA.
In 2007, Mumford and Sons was just one band in a burgeoning West London folk scene, or as Marcus Mumford calls it, "a community." Filled out by Ben Lovett, Winston Marshall, and Ted Dwane, the quartet began playing shows in the local area for the first couple of years, building up to a tour of the UK, and finally small venues in both the UK and US. By 2009, Mumford and Sons was signed to Island Records and released their debut album, Sigh No More, in October of that year.
Led by "Little Lion Man" and "The Cave," the album helped raised Mumford and Sons' profile significantly thanks to performances on American late-night television and concerts at larger venues. The band's popularity was such that their next album, Babel (2012), debuted at #1 on charts in the U.S. and U.K. A world tour, titled "Gentleman of the Road" ensued, and continued into 2013. After the tour ended, Mumford and Sons went on a hiatus before returning in 2015 with their third album, Wilder Mind. Touring for much of 2015 and 2016, Mumford and Sons tickets remain highly sought after.
