In 2007, Mumford & Sons was just one band in a burgeoning West London folk scene, or as Marcus Mumford calls it, "a community." Filled out by Ben Lovett, Winston Marshall, and Ted Dwane, the quartet began playing shows in the local area for the first couple years, building up to a tour of the UK, and finally small venues in both the UK and US. By 2009, the band was signed to Island Records and released its debut album, Sigh No More, in October of that year.
Led by "Little Lion Man" and "The Cave," the album helped raised Mumford & Son's profile significantly thanks to performances on American late-night television and concerts at larger venues. The band's popularity was such that its next album, Babel (2012), debuted at #1 on the U.S. and U.K. charts. A world tour, titled "Gentleman of the Road" ensued, and continued into 2013. After the tour ended, the band went on a hiatus before returning in 2015 with its third album, Wilder Mind.
