The New York Knickerbockers were established in 1946 as part of the Basketball Association of America. Of the 11 original franchises, the Knicks were among the most successful teams in the league and advanced into the postseason in 1946, 1947 and 1948. But in 1949, the franchise, along with the rest of the BAA, merged with their rival National Basketball League, forming the National Basketball Association. The roots of the NBA were then planted, and the New York Knicks have been a staple ever since. They, along with the Boston Celtics, are the only franchises that are still playing in their original cities. Ever since the team was founded, fans have been looking to buy New York Knicks tickets.

Of course, playing in a city like New York, your team will be scrutinized year in and year out. Fortunately for their fans, the team has seen its share of success, plenty of which came from the late sixties into the early seventies. Behind players like Willis Reed, Bill Bradley and Walt Frazier, the Knicks were able to capture two world championships, one of which included the most iconic moments in Knicks team history. In Game 5 of the 1970 NBA Finals, Willis Reed tore a muscle in his leg, causing him to miss the rest of that game and Game 6. His absence hurt the Knicks, and if he hadn't played in Game 7, no one would have given them a chance. But the thousands of fans who were at MSG were shocked when Reed limped out onto the court. His presence alone inspired his teammates and helped lead to the Knicks' first world title. The team was able to capture another championship three years later, when they beat the Lakers in five games.

After a few losing seasons, the Knicks won the NBA's first draft lottery, securing the No. 1 overall selection in the 1985 NBA Draft. It was a good year to have the top pick, thanks to Patrick Ewing, an athletic and dominant center from Georgetown University. His selection lit a fire under the fan base in New York City, making Knicks games can't-miss events in a city full of high profile events. Over his career with the Knicks, Ewing helped lead the franchise to two NBA Finals and 13 playoff appearances, as well as winning the NBA Rookie of the Year Award.

Since Ewing's departure from the Knicks in 2000, the team has struggled to find success. The franchise truly began to turn around again when the acquired Carmelo Anthony at the trade deadline in 2011. In 2015, the New York Knicks drafted Latvian power forward Kristaps Porzingis, with the fourth pick in the first round of the 2015 NBA draft. With fresh talent on the team, fans from all over are buying New York Knicks tickets in 2016.
