Since emerging in 1996, Nickelback has been one of the most commercial successful rock groups of the late 20th and early 21 century. A polarizing band, Nickelback has plenty of detractors but also plenty of fans. The next Nickelback tour, in support of its eighth studio album No Fixed Address, is scheduled for 2015! Nickelback formed in 1995 in Hanna, Alberta, with an original lineup of Chad Kroeger, Ryan Peake, Mike Kroeger, and Brandon Kroeger. After relocating to Vancouver, the band released their first album, Curb, in 1996. Though Curb had a cult following, it did not perform well on the charts. Their independently-released sophomore effort, The State, fared little better, although two of its singles, "Leader of Men," and "Breathe," were the band's first singles to break the top 20.
Nickelback broke into the mainstream with the 2001 album Silver Side Up. Its single, "How You Remind Me," became an instant hit, eventually winning four Grammy nominations. Its parent album was equally successful, shooting up to number one in the band's native Canada, and topped or was near the top of the charts in several other countries.
Following Silver Side Up, the band followed up with several popular albums, including The Long Road, All the Right Reasons, and Dark Horse. Numerous singles are considered fan favorites, such as "Burn It to the Ground," "Never Gonna Be Alone," "Someday," and the triple-platinum selling "Rockstar."
Critics compare Nickelback's sound to post-grunge groups like Daughtry, Finger Eleven, and 3 Doors Down, but the group's popular appeal, as well as their ability to sell out a Nickelback concert, has brought them to a new level of success.
