Norah Jones is a singer-songwriter who was born in Brooklyn, NY in 1979. Born to an American mother and Indian father, her parents separated when she was seven years old and Jones grew up with her mother in Grapevine, TX. Attending Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Dallas, Jones played alto saxophone in the school band and also sang in the choir.

Upon graduation from high school, Jones went on to attend the University of North Texas, where she majored in jazz piano and sang with a jazz group at the university. After Jones graduated she moved to New York City and performed backup vocals for Victoria Williams. Impressed with her work, Blue Note Records, a label owned by EMI Group, signed Norah Jones to a recording contract.

In 2002, Jones released her debut album, Come Away with Me, which reached the top spot on the Billboard 200 chart, was certified diamond by the RIAA, and garnered eight Grammy Awards. Described as an acoustic pop album, featuring blues, jazz, soul, and country elements, Come Away with Me featured wildly popular hits such as “Don’t Know Why” and “Come Away with Me.”

Since the release of her debut album, Jones has gone on to release four more solo albums, most recently Little Broken Hearts in 2012. In 2013, Jones released her first collaborative album alongside Green Day lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong, titled Foreverly. In 2015, Jones is embarking on a fall tour, where she will perform music from her entire career.
