Oklahoma City Thunder Tickets | About the Thunder

The newest name on the schedules of all the teams in the National Basketball Association is the Oklahoma City Thunder. Formerly the Seattle Supersonics, the Thunder moved to Oklahoma City following the 2008 season looking for a fresh start in the capital city of Oklahoma. The people of OKC are basketball crazy, and Thunder basketball tickets quickly became extremely popular to see the team play at the revamped Ford Center.

In their seasons in Seattle, the OKC Thunder saw a lot of success and plenty of great players. In 41 seasons in the Emerald City, the Thunder compiled a record of 1,745-1,585 including a NBA Championship in 1979. They also have six jersey numbers retired to the rafters, including Gus Williams (#1), Nate McMillan (#10), Lenny Wilkens (#19), Spencer Haywood (#24), Fred Brown (#32) and Jack Sikma (#43).

Oklahoma City Thunder owner Clay Bennett announced the team would be moving following failed attempts for a new basketball arena in Seattle. Although it moved to the midwest, the franchise remains part of the Northwest Division of the NBA's Western Conference. They notched their first win in team history against Northwest Division rival Minnesota Timberwolves on November 2, 2008.

The trio of James Harden, Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook looked like a dynasty in the making for OKC. They were a talented young group looking to take over the Western Conference. However, a disappointing showing in the NBA Finals against the Miami Heat in 2012 led the Thunder to breaking up the trio. Harden left for the Houston Rockets and KD and Westbrook were left to lead the team.

The Thunder haven't been back to the finals since, and with a few key injuries to Durant, the team has missed out on opportunities to win a title. This past offseason, Durant shocked the NBA by leaving the Thunder to join forces with their biggest competition, the Golden State Warriors.

Westbrook, the lone star remaining in OKC, was surprised but refuses to show emotion when the subject is brought up. Instead, he has decided to leave it all out on the floor and now plays with even more passion than before. A reunion is imminent, as the Warriors and Thunder play during the regular season. Be there to witness if Westbrook can continue on his path of destruction or if the Warriors are just too good now that they have added Durant.
