A professional boxer since 1992, Oscar De La Hoya has won titles in six divisions. De La Hoya won his first title against Jimmi Bredahl, winning the super featherweight title. Later in the year, De La Hoya moved up to the lightweight division, and won the title against Jorge Paez. Oscar De La Hoya would successfully defend the lightweight title five times, including against division champion Rafael Ruelas, Genaro Hernandez, and Jesse James Leija. Oscar De La Hoya next moved up in weight to junior welterweight, where he defeated division champion Julio Ceasar Chavez after the fight was stopped in the fourth round over a cut Chavez received. Oscar De La Hoya later successfully defended the title against Miguel Angel Gonzalez before moving up to welterweight.
As a welterweight, Oscar De La Hoya first won the title against defending champion Pernell Whitaker. When he returned, Oscar De La Hoya fought against junior middleweight boxer Ricardo Mayorga to win his first title in the super welterweight category. Starting his professional career in 1995 at age 16, Manny Pacquiao rose quickly in the sport, fighting against Edmund Ignacio, Rustico Torrecampo, and Chatchai Sasakul.
