About the PBR: Professional Bull Riders

The Professional Bull Riders, or PBR, was created back in 1992 and is headquartered in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The company had simple beginnings as a group of 20 bull riders, which had been competing as part of the rodeo circuit, came together with hopes of taking bull riding to the next level. Each of the 20 bull riders invested $1000 of their own money into the PBR to get everything started. To this day the PBR remains one of the only professional sports to be owned by its athletes. The PBR has over 1,200 bull riders competing in their events around the globe. Competitions take place in countries like Australia, Canada, Brazil, Mexico and the United States. There are currently four different PBR tours operating, including the U.S. Smokeless Tobacco Company Challenger Tour, Enterprise Rent-A-Car Tour, the Discovery Tour and their elite tour, the Built Ford Tough Series. The Built Ford Tough Series consists of 31 Professional Bull Riders regular season events and the PBR World Finals in Las Vegas. Only the top 45 riders in the world compete as part of the series.

During every bull ride at a competition, the Professional Bull Riders are striving for a possible 100 points they could earn. Judges determine each rider's score based on two areas: the rider's ability and how difficult the bull was to ride. Judges are looking for riders to have constant control, good body position throughout the ride and remain on the bull for a full eight seconds. Equally, each bull provides a different experience and is judged on their difficulty during the ride.

• Each regular season event for the Built Ford Tough Series is a two-day competition. The first day takes 45 competitors and dwindles them down to only 15 who will compete on the second day or the Championship Round.
• There are many bulls that take part in PBR competitions. Some of the bulls' names include Copperhead Slinger, Crossfire Hurricane, Hot Stuff and Scene of the Crash.
• An important person during any bull riding competition is that of the bull fighter. Once the bull rider has been knocked off, his job is to distract the bull long enough for the rider to get to safety. Often it is the bull fighter who walks off with the most injuries from any competition.
