In early 2016, Pentatonix announced a world tour that will make stops across North America this spring. The tour will launch at BB&T Center in Sunrise, FL on April 13, and will make stops at venues, including Sprint Center in Kansas City, MO, Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, and Frank Erwin Center in Austin, before finishing up at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, MD on May 12. Us the Duo will join Pentatonix for each show. The tour comes on the heels of Pentatonix's 2015 self-titled album. Pentatonix tickets are going fast, so get yours soon.
The forerunner of Pentatonix formed when Kristie Maldonado, Scott Hoying, and Mitch Grassi recorded a cover of Lady Gaga's "Telephone" and sent it in to a competition to meet the cast of Glee. It didn't win, but they started gaining a fan base after uploaded the video to YouTube. Later, the group decided to audition for The Sing-Off, which is when they recruited Avi Kaplan and Kevin Olusola so they could meet the show's memebership requirements. Shortly after, they settled on the name "Pentatonix."
The group was ultimately successful in auditions, and went on to win season 3 of The Sing-Off. After winning, Pentatonix went to work on their first album while continuing to release video covers of popular songs on YouTube. The first EP, PTX, Volume 1 was released in June 2012, followed by a debut national tour. Pentatonix made additional releases in 2013 and 2014, including video collaborations with Lindsey Stirling and Todrick Hall in 2013, as well as their first full-scale studio album in 2014.
