Over his career he compiled nearly 400 wins and was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1938. Another great Philadelphia Phillies player and future hall of famer from the early 20th century was Rickie Ashburn, who played for the team from 1948-1959. He finished with over 2,500 hits for his career, was a five-time all star, and had his number 1 retired by the Philadelphia Phillies in 1979.

In the last half of the 20th century, the Philadelphia Phillies were lucky to have a couple of the all-time great players at their positions. Pitcher Steve Carlton was feared by hitters throughout his career and finished with 329 wins and over 4,000 strikeouts. The left-handed pitcher was inducted into Cooperstown in 1994. Perhaps no Philadelphia Phillies player is more attached to the city for his greatness than third baseman Mike Schmidt. One of the all time great players to play at the hot corner, Schmidt helped the 1980 Philadelphia Phillies capture the World Series title, the only one in franchise history. He won the series MVP that year and will always have a place in the hearts of all fans who have bought Phillies game tickets over the years.
