Phish 2016 Fall Tour

Though Phish stayed busy touring throughout the summer, they are set to launch a fall tour beginning in October. The first show is slated to take place at North Charleston Coliseum in North Charleston, SC. Other stops on the jam-packed two week trek include Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre at Encore Park in Alpharetta, GA and Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, FL. The tour will wrap up with four shows at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, with the last show set to take place on October 31.

Phish 2016 Summer Tour

As they do many summers, Phish toured during the summer in 2016. The popular jam band kicked off their trek at Xcel Energy Center in Saint Paul, MN on June 22, and from there, they stopped at venues across the country, including storied Wrigley Field in Chicago, Saratoga Performing Arts Center in Saratoga Springs, NY, and The Forum in Inglewood, CA.

Phish Biography

Phish was formed in 1983 at the University of Vermont by Trey Anastasio, Jon Fishman, and Jeff Holdsworth. With the help of bassist Mike Gordon, the group began playing to their fellow college students, gaining a following at both the University of Vermont and Goddard College. Phish self-released their first two albums, Phish and The Man Who Stepped Into Yesterday, in 1986 and 1987 at their concerts. The band was signed to Absolute A-Go-Go Records in 1990, and they released their first major studio album Junta shortly thereafter. The album was a success, eventually going gold. Soon, Phish was opening for acts like Santana.

Phish has always been known for their improvisation and experimentation, and some of the band's earliest albums show this. On their sophomore album Lawn Boy, Phish used elements of the bluegrass, jazz, and barbershop quartet styles. Other styles and genres drawn from by the band include folk, country, and pop. Phish's tendency to constantly tinker with different styles has taken some albums in a completely different direction from the rest; for example, the band's 11th album The Siket Disc is mostly instrumental. Phish has carried their improvisional style from the recording studio to the stage, weaving their famous jam sessions into concerts. Over the years, this approach toward their music has made Phish the leading act in the jam band genre, allowing them to inherit the spot once held by the Grateful Dead.

For the first several years of their existence, Phish only had a cult following. This changed with the release of their eighth album Billy Breathes, which saw Phish become accepted by mainstream audiences for the first time. At this time Phish fans across the country were looking to buy Phish tickets. Billy Breathes is the band's highest charting album to date, reaching #7 on the Billboard 200, and also contains their highest ranked single, "Free," which peaked at #11 on the Mainstream Rock chart. In 1998, Phish played Farm Aid with Willie Nelson, Neil Young, and Paul Shaffer. They capped off the decade by releasing Farmhouse, which followed in the spirit of Billy Breathes.

In 2000, Phish announced that they were going on a hiatus. After working on side projects for two years, the group reunited in 2002 for a new tour, with the first concert at Madison Square Garden. Between 2002 and 2004, the quartet released Round Room and Undermind. Phish broke up for a second time shortly following the latter album's debut in June 2004. In Summer 2009, they once again went back on tour and followed it up with the release of their 14th studio album, Joy, on September 8. Phish's most recent album, Fuego was released in 2014.
