Pitbull Biography

Armando Christian Perez, better known by his stage name Pitbull, was born on January 15, 1981 in Miami, FL. Born to Cuban parents, Pitbull grew up in the primarily Cuban neighborhood of Little Havana and was heavily influenced by Miami bass music during his childhood. Upon graduation from Miami Coral Park High School, Pitbull decided he was going to try and make a career out of rapping.

After a short stint as a member of Luther Campbell’s Luke Records, Pitbull signed with Famous Artist Music & Management in 2001. Working with Robert Fernandez, a producer signed to the company, the two began altering Pitbull’s style to a more radio-friendly sound.

Fernandez eventually introduced Pitbull to Lil Jon. Impressed with Pitbull’s talent, Lil Jon gave Pitbull his own track called “Pitbulls Cuban Rideout” on his 2002 album, Kings of Crunk. The album was certified 2x Platinum by the RIAA less than a year after its release. With over 2,000,000 copies sold, Kings of Crunk gave Pitbull a significant amount of visibility.

In 2004, Pitbull released his debut album, M.I.A.M.I. The album’s lead single “Culo,” which was produced by Lil Jon and the Diaz Brothers reached number 32 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart and number 11 on the US Rap Songs chart.

Pitbull has released a total of nine albums with his most popular two being M.I.A.M.I. and his 2011 album, Planet Pit, both of which were certified Gold by the RIAA. Today, many of Pitbull’s tracks such as “The Anthem,” “Don’t Stop the Party,” “I Know You Want Me (Celle Ocho),” and “Timber” can be heard in clubs across the world.
