Projekt Revolution was founded in 2001 by Linkin Park, who wanted to bring together fans and artists of different genres in order to sell tickets for the most cutting-edge concerts possible. Projekt Revolution features a wide variety of music, including alternative rock, heavy metal, hard rock, hardcore punk, and hip hop.
The first Projekt Revolution tour, which kicked off in January of 2002, featured artists like Cypress Hill, Adema, and DJ Z-Trip in addition to Linkin Park. Projekt Revolution 2003 featured Blindside, Xzibit, and Mudvayne, and even more Projekt Revolution tickets were sold than in the previous year.
In 2004, the popularity of the Projekt Revolution tour had grown such that another stage was added so even more bands could perform. The new "Revolution Stage" featured mostly up-and-coming artists, while the more well-known acts performed on the main stage. Korn, Snoop Dogg, The Used, and Less Than Jake played on the Projekt Revolution main stage in 2004, while bands like Ghostface Killah, Funeral for a Friend, and No Warning played the Revolution stage.
The Projekt Revolution tour resumed again in 2007 with the intention of becoming more environmentally friendly. The bands used biodiesel in their tour busses, information booths about greenhouse gas emissions were set up at the venues along the tour route, and all paper materials for Projekt Revolution live albums were printed on recycled paper with environmentally friendly inks. Some bands on the 2007 Projekt Revolution tour included My Chemical Romance, Taking Back Sunday, Mindless Self Indulgence, and Madina Lake.
