The country trio Rascal Flatts formed in Nashville, Tennessee, in 1999. The band's origins stretch back to the early 1990s. In 1992, Jay DeMarcus moved to Nashville to pursue a music career. His second cousin, singer Gary LeVox, joined him in 1997. When their guitarist could not make a weekend show, the cousins invited Joe Don Rooney to play with them. The trio bonded and Rascal Flatts was born. The group's lineup has remained steady since its inception, with Gary LeVox on lead vocals, Joe Don Rooney playing lead guitar, and Jay DeMarcus also playing guitar. The country artists released their debut album, Rascal Flatts, in 2000. That year the album won the Country Music Association's Horizon Award for the best new group.Rascal Flatts produced their sophomore album, Melt, in 2002. Soaring to the top of the country charts, Melt went triple platinum. The group followed up with other studio albums, such as Feels Like Today, Me and My Gang, and Still Feels Good. Top Rascal Flatts singles include "These Days," "Stand," and "My Wish." These days, the trio ranks with Kenny Chesney, Carrie Underwood, Keith Urban, and Tim McGraw as country superstars. The band released their first compilation album, Greatest Hits Volume 1, in October of 2008. Since their debut in 2000, the artists have released ten #1 singles onto the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. Named Top Vocal Group multiple times by the Country Music Association, the band has toured with Toby Keith and other country stars.
