REO Speedwagon - History

REO Speedwagon began over forty years ago in a town just outside of Chicago playing cover songs in local college bars. From building a huge following in the Midwest of the United States to developing a huge fan base around the world, REO Speedwagon continues to play in front of huge crowds. Don't miss the chance to get REO Speedwagon tickets and see them play their hits at venues across the country!

Neal Doughty and Alan Gratzer were students at the University of Illinois when REO Speedwagon was originally formed in 1968. Upon graduating from school they welcomed members Gary Richrath, Gregg Philbin and Terry Luttrell leading to their signing with Epic Records. Their first few albums failed to land them any mainstream success, and it wasn't until the release of Hi Infidelity (1980) that REO Speedwagon saw it first big success. The album reached #1 on the Billboard charts and featured multiple hit singles. Included on the album was 'Keep On Loving You' which peaked at #1 on the pop singles chart, the other single that made it to the top five was 'Take It On The Run'.

They followed up Hi Fidelity with two more commercially successful albums Good Trouble (1982) and Wheels Are Turnin' (1984). The latter included the only other #1 single from REO Speedwagon; 'Can't Fight This Feeling' reached the top spot in 1985. After a rough patch from the late 1980's and early 1990's, REO Speedwagon began releasing compilation albums like Take It On The Run (2001) and Keep On Rollin' (2002). They are now touring giving fans a chance to experience REO Speedwagon live.
