Although he is best known for his time as the lead vocalist for the legendary rock band Led Zeppelin, Robert Plant has forged himself a successful solo career as well. He has released five platinum-selling solo albums and has toured extensively, letting fans who buy Robert Plant tickets see him perform in cities across the globe.
Robert Plant was discovered by guitarist Jimmy Page while he was performing as part of the band Hobbstweedle. It was that performance that landed Robert Plant the lead singer spot in Page's new band, Led Zeppelin. Also featuring drummer John Bonham and bassist/keyboardist John Paul Jones, the band is widely considered one of the pre-eminent rock bands of all time. Since the time of their formation in 1968 until today, Robert Plant and the rest of Led Zeppelin have sold more than 300 million albums worldwide and more than 110 million in the US. Their album Led Zeppelin IV (1971) proved to be their most successful, selling in excess of 23 million in the US and going 23 times platinum.
Following the death of drummer John Bonham, the band parted ways and Robert Plant embarked on his own solo career. In 1982, he released his debut album as a solo artist with Pictures at Eleven (1982), which reached #5 on the Billboard charts. The platinum selling album was followed up with other top ten albums, including The Principal of Moments (1983) and Now and Zen (1988). His solo career has spanned more than 25 years, and his 2007 album Raising Sand with country artist Alison Krauss has helped to prove that his music spans genres. Robert Plant continuously tours with his backing band, The Sensational Space Shifters.
