About Rod Stewart

Rod Stewart was born in 1945. The youngest child of a Scottish father and an English mother, he loved model trains and soccer. As a young man, Stewart experienced life as a grave digger, an apprentice with the Brentford Football Club, and a beatnik. However, role models like Al Jolson and Bob Dylan inspired him to learn music. In 1966, he joined an English rock band called The Jeff Beck Group. With Beck's incredible guitar skills and a talented lead singer, Truth and Beck-Ola were popular. The vocalist left in 1969 to form The Faces with Ron Wood.

The Faces completed three records, including Ooh La La, but Rod was destined for a solo career. In 1971, his album Every Picture Tells A Story reached number one on the Billboard 200 and introduced his first huge hit, "Maggie May." Tired of high taxes in the UK, "Rod the Mod" moved to the United States in 1975 after his band broke up. Covering songs by The Beatles and Cat Stevens, he produced the 1978 disco single, "Da Ya Think I'm Sexy?" He gained a reputation as a ladies man with a string of relationships and divorces. As his record sales soared, the songwriter sang "All For Love" with Bryan Adams and Sting.

Fulfilling a dream, Stewart released the first edition of The Great American Songbook in 2002. Selling over 15 million copies, the series covers classic 30's and 40's tunes like "As Time Goes By" and included duets and vocals by Elton John, Eric Clapton, Cher, and other stars. The following year, a new jukebox musical featuring some of Stewart's songs, opened at The Victoria Palace Theatre. Named Tonight's The Night, the show was directed by Ben Elton. Well into the 2010s, Rod Stewart tours are a rocking time. With a 2005 Grammy for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album, a series of shows with Stevie Nicks, over 24 studio albums, and hit singles like "Have I Told You Lately," his raspy voice is "Forever Young."
