2015-2016 Sacramento Kings Season

Following the end of another disappointing season in 2015, the Sacramento Kings, who finished the 2014-2015 season with a 29-53 record made big off-season roster changes for the current season. The team drafted Willie Cauley-Stein with the sixth overall pick in the 2015 NBA draft. Along with the addition of Cauley-Stein to the roster, the Sacramento Kings also acquired Rajon Rondo, Marco Belinelli, and Caron Butler.

This season will also serve as the team’s last at Sleep Train Arena. For the 2016-2017 season, the Sacramento Kings will move to Golden 1 Center in downtown Sacramento. Get your Sacramento Kings tickets and watch the team try to turn things around during the 2015-2016 NBA season.

Sacramento Kings History

For the Sacramento Kings franchise, everything began nearly 3,000 miles away in Rochester, New York, in 1945 as part of the National Basketball League. Then known as the Rochester Royals, the Kings made their way through multiple cities, names and leagues before finding their way to Sacramento. The team joined the National Basketball Association in 1948, winning the NBA Championship only a few years later in 1951. From there, the Royals moved further south, to Cincinnati, where they resided for the next fifteen years. But in 1972, after nearly 30 years of being known as the Royals, the team moved again, this time splitting their home games between Omaha and Kansas City, and from that point forward fans would be buying Kings tickets to see their team play.

Until 1975, the Kings continued to split time between the two Midwestern cities, until tickets sales in Omaha dropped so low the team abandoned the market. Eventually, Kansas City also proved to be unable to handle a NBA franchise. In the team's final season in the city, ticket sales plummeted, with less than 7,000 fans per game. With poor attendance, ownership decided to take the team west to the capital of California in 1985 to become the Sacramento Kings.

Over the long history of the Sacramento Kings, no matter which city they were in, there were great players who put on the uniform. In Cincinnati, there was the all-time great point guard Oscar Robertson, who is still the only player in NBA history to average a triple-double for an entire season. In Kansas City, they were home to Hall of Fame player Nate Archibald, who was an All-NBA First Team member three times with the Kings. From 1998 through 2005, some of the most successful seasons in team history, fans with Sacramento Kings tickets got to see Chris Webber lead the team.
