"Sesame Street" got its start in 1969 as an educational program geared toward children. While the show has undergone significant changes over the years, it has remained wildly popular with children, especially those who are young. It created such celebrated characters as Big Bird, Snuffaluffagus, Oscar the Grouch, and — of course — Elmo. By its 40th anniversary, the show had become the 15th highest-rated children’s television show in the U.S. and a survey had found that 95 percent of all preschoolers in the U.S. had watched the show by the time they were three years old.
With the show’s immense popularity, it was only a matter of time before the production hit the road, letting fans get a taste of their favorite characters up close. Sesame Street Live originated in 1980 with the performance of "A Sesame Street Mystery" at the Met Center in Minnesota. Today, Sesame Street Live exists as several tours that crisscross their way across the United States. Each tour has a separate plot, scenery, characters, and sound track featuring everyone's favorite Sesame Street themes. Each Sesame Street Live show promises to be a unique, musical experience for children and families.
