In 2005, Simon Fuller and Nigel Lythgoe created a Fox television show, So You Think You Can Dance. Recruiting Lauren Sanchez as a host, the American Idol producers held open auditions and chose finalists for "Hollywood Week". On each Performance episode, contestants participated in dance challenges with themes like waltz, Bollywood, swing, or ballet. Depending on their skills and popularity, someone got voted off every week during the Results Show. With prizes like a car, a New York City apartment overlooking Central Park, and a cash windfall, the intense competition inspired future shows such as America's Best Dance Crew.
As the first grand prize winner, Nick Lazzarini scored a Manhattan penthouse plus $100,000 on the dance show. Nigel Lythgoe judged each performance, assisted by guests like Adam Shankman, Mia Michaels, Lil C, and Debbie Allen. Over time, the show evolved and featured disco, contemporary, and tap dancing. Season 2 introduced "Vegas Week", host Cat Deeley joined the series, and Benji Schwimmer won. The following year, Mary Murphy became a permanent judge and Sabra Johnson took home $250,000. In 2008, Joshua Allen was "America's Favorite Dancer", and the series was as popular as Strictly Come Dancing.
Inspiring the performers, So You Think You Can Dance music comes from a wide range of genres. For example, songs from Season 5 include "Hot Honey Rag" fromChicago the Musical, "Halo" by Beyonce, and "Right Here Waiting" byRichard Marx. And when it comes to dance styles, genres include swing, tango, lyrical jazz, and ballroom. Choreographers like Wade Robson, Tony Meredith, and Mandy Moore create the group, partner, and solo routines, and contestants have a short time to practice the steps before facing eliminations. After celebrating its 100th episode with Katie Holmes in July, SYTYCD plans a 2009 tour.
If you enjoy America's Best Dance Crew, Lord of the Dance, or Dancing with the Stars, you will love discount SYTYCD tickets. Look at the tour schedule and choose your cheap dance tickets from TicketNetwork today.
