About Styx

In the 1970's and 1980's the band Styx provided hit songs that would become anthems for years to come. With singles like 'Mr. Roboto' and 'Come Sail Away' still getting airplay on radios and on television, the popularity of Styx remains high. They continue to tour with die hard fans filling arenas from coast to coast. Be sure to get your Styx tickets before they are gone!

Before they made their transformation into Styx, the band went by multiple other names. Brothers John and Chuck Panozzo, in addition to Dennis DeYoung played as part of the band Tradewinds during the late 1960's. They added James Young and John Curulewski in the early seventies, and were signed to the label Wooden Nickel Records under the name TW4. Not long after signing, they changed their name officially to Styx. By 1974, they had already released three records Styx (1972), Styx II (1973) and The Serpent is Rising (1973). The release of their fourth album came that same year, but it was single off of one of their previous albums that helped Styx breakthrough. The ballad 'Lady' off of Styx II was earning local airplay in the band's hometown of Chicago, and was soon released nationwide where it shot up the charts reaching as high as #6. Their new found success landed them a deal with the major record label A&M Records.

The first album from Styx on their new label was Equinox (1975) which featured the Top 40 single 'Lorelei'. It was in promotion of that album that Curulewski left the band and was replaced by Tommy Shaw. It was with Tommy Shaw that Styx catapulted into superstardom, and released a string of platinum selling albums. The only #1 single ever released by Styx was 'Babe' in 1979 off of the album Cornerstone (1979), but is not the most recognizable single. Their singles 'Come Sail Away' and 'Mr. Roboto' were both Top 10 singles and many fans know the lyrics word for word.

Although much of their success came in the late 70's and 80's, Styx continues to release new music and compilations. Their most recent albums include Cyclorama (2003) and Big Bang Theory (2005).
