The Taste of Chaos tour was created in 2005 by record producer and Warped Tour founder Kevin Lyman as a post-hardcore, metalcore, and hardcore punk oriented tour and festival. It forms a winter season compliment to Warped, which is held during the summer. Rockstar Energy Drinks is the primary sponsor of the tour, with a number of secondary sponsors, such as Hard Rock and indie record label Epitaph. The tour spans the U.S. and, depending on the schedule, also includes stops in Canada, the U.K., New Zealand, and Australia. A set of bands performs the main show, with a different local band opening for the headliners on each stop. The openers are chosen in a Battle of the Bands style competition sponsored by Ernie Ball, Inc..
The Taste of Chaos tour has gained several bands considerable notice, whether by gaining new fans or opportunities for signing with record labels. Bands signed to labels following performances at ToC include Sasoin, My American Heart, and Paramore. According to an interview with Paramore in The Trades, a viewing of their set by a Fueled By Ramen representative led to the label signing the band shortly after the 2005 ToC tour ended. Some bands that opened for the headliners in earlier years, such as Aiden, have themselves come back as headliners in subsequent tours. As with the Warped Tour, Taste of Chaos releases a compilation album featuring the participating bands.
