About the Texas Rangers

Home Stadium: Rangers Ballpark in Arlington

Opened:1994
Seating Capacity:48,114
Address:1000 Ballpark Way
Arlington, TX 76011

The Texas Rangers joined Major League Baseball in 1972, when the Washington Senators relocated to the Lone Star State when then owner Bob Short decided to move the team to Arlington. Since that point, the Rangers have built an incredably loyal fan base that continues to support the Rangers in their quest for the franchises first World Series title.

Since the team's inception, the Rangers have seen their fair share of famous faces as part of the franchise, including former president George W. Bush (part-owner 1989-94), manager Billy Martin (1973-1975), and pitcher Nolan Ryan (1989-93 and current CEO & president). Another famous figure that has played a part in the franchise history is the team's first manager, baseball legend Ted Williams. Unfortunately for the fans in Arlington, not even Teddy Ballgame could overcome a bad roster of players, and the Rangers lost 100 games in their inaugural season. In fact, it took until 1996 before the team finally got a taste of the postseason, and ultimately went three times in four years, losing each time to the New York Yankees.

The greatest level of success for the Rangers happened from 2010 to 2011, when the team was American League champions in both seasons. Each year the team failed to capture the World Series championship, losing to the San Francisco Giants in 2010 and the St. Louis Cardinals in 2011.

The Rangers continue to build towards their first championship behind young players including Yu Darvish, Jurickson Profar and Ian Kinsler. It won't be easy though, playing against tough competition in the AL West including the Oakland A's, Seattle Mariners, Houston Astros and Los Angeles Angels.
