The Cripple of Inishmaan takes place off the coast of Ireland on the Aran Islands in the 1930s. Billy Claven, a crippled young man, lives on Inishmaan with his family. When word reaches them that the neighboring island, Inishmore, is going to be hosting a film crew from Hollywood that will be making a movie on the island, Billy wants nothing more than to be involved. He wants to escape from the discrimination and boredom of his home island. When he chases after a role in the movie, shock follows as he gets an opportunity. This coming-of-age story is a look into the life of a boy with a difficult life in the 1930s.
