After touring throughout the summer, The Goo Goo Dolls announced that they would embark on a second headlining tour throughout the fall months in support of Boxes. The tour kicks off on October 26 at the Revolution Concert House and Event Center in Garden City, ID. Other stops on the fall trek include the Bakersfield Box Theater in Bakersfield, CA, the Genessee Theatre in Waukegan, IL, and The Grand Theater at Foxwoods in Mashantucket, CT. The last stop for the Goo Goo Dolls is set to take place on December 10 at Fantasy Springs Resort & Casino in Indio, CA.
In spring 2016, The Goo Goo Dolls announced they would be hitting the road for a 2016 summer tour. The tour was in support of the band's 2016 album Boxes, and featured Collective Soul and Tribe Society as the Goo Goo Doll's openers.
The tour's first date took place on July 8 at McMenamins Historic Edgefield Amphitheater in Troutdale, OR and stopped in venues such as the Santa Barbara Bowl in Santa Barbara, CA, Molson Canadian Amphitheatre in Toronto, and Nikon at Jones Beach Theater in Long Island, NY.
The Goo Goo Dolls consists of band members Johnny Rzeznik, Robby Takac, and various touring members. The group was formed in 1986 under the name Sex Maggots. Because local newspapers were unable to print the name, the band promptly changed their name to the Goo Goo Dolls after a toy called a Goo Goo Doll. The Goo Goo Dolls began recording right away and soon released their self-titled debut album in 1986 on Mercenary Records. Shortly after their first release, The Goo Goo Dolls were picked up by larger record label Celluloid Records and released their second album, entitled Jed, in 1989.
When the Goo Goo Dolls began recording their third album in 1990, they decided to feature Johnny Rzeznik on lead vocals instead of Robby Takac as on the first two releases. The group's third release, Hold Me Up, was a big hit on college radio and was greatly influenced by heavy metal, pop rock, and punk rock. Because of their great success on Hold Me Up, the Goo Goo Dolls' record label granted them an increased budget for their fourth album, Superstar Car Wash, which was released in 1993. Because of the work that was put into Superstar Car Wash, the album received a huge amount of media attention and fans all over the world were buying Goo Goo Dolls tickets.
As of 2016, the Goo Goo Dolls have released a total of eleven studio albums.
