The Homecoming was written by Nobel Prize winning author Harold Pinter in 1965. Its original production premiered in 1965 on the London Stage. The Homecoming did not make its debut in New York until January 5, 1967, when it opened at the Music Box. The show received critical praise when it opened, and its 40th anniversary Broadway revival in 2007 was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Revival of a Play.
According to The Homecoming official website, the musical "is an edgy and compelling tale of lust, seduction and deception, telling the story of a dysfunctional family that welcomes the homecoming of its estranged brother and competes for the attention of his dangerously alluring wife." The 1967 original received a total of four Tony Awards, including Best Play, Best Performance by a Leading Actor, and Best Performance by a Featured Actor. In 1973, a film of the play directed by original director Peter Hall was released.
