Showing 1-1 of 1 result. The story of The Mars Volta began when then members of the band At the Drive In, Cedric Bixler-Zavala and Omar Rodriguez-Lopez began a musical side project by the name of De Facto. Playing at local bars in their hometown of El Paso, Texas, they developed a following with their unique sound. The members of the band felt that their experimenting with sound as part of De Facto was the direction they wanted to go and left At the Drive In. They became known by the name The Mars Volta and their live shows have fans lining up for tickets!
Their first album Tremulant EP was only sparsely released and was not met with much commercial success. But their second album, De-Loused in the Comatorium (2003), made up for its predecessor selling half a million copies while making it onto many critics 'Best of the Year' lists. The album was produced by Rick Rubin, who co-founded Def Jam Records and was listed in 2007 as one of Time Magazines Most Influential People in the World. At the time the album was being recorded The Mars Volta did not have a bass player, so Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea helped fill the role.
Following De-Loused at the Comatorium, The Mars Volta released the albums Frances the Mute (2005), Amputechture (2006) and The Bedlam in Goliath (2007). Each with the sound that The Mars Volta was hoping to portray, that being something different then you have ever heard before. While the members of The Mars Volta have changed over the years, their goals have not. They do things that they feel in music and do it better then most.
