The Testament of Mary is a one-woman show starring acclaimed actress Fiona Shaw. In addition to mainstream acting gigs like "True Blood" and "Harry Potter," Shaw is a four-time Olivier Award winner whose film and theater credentials are prolific and enviable. She has starred in such productions as Hyde Park, Much Ado About Nothing, and As You Like It. Shaw, in collaboration with director Deborah Warner, puts on a creative new play written by Colm Toibin. The New York Times called her performance "beautiful and daring, " while Entertainment Weekly said the show was "spellbinding, exquisitely emotional. "
Based on the novel by Colm Toibin, The Testament of Mary is about Virgin Mary’s attempt to deal with the crucifixion of her son, Jesus Christ, 20 years after his death. Set in the city of Ephesus, Mary is both guarded and protected. But she must re-tell the story of her son, from her own perspective, as it has never been heard before.
