About Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers was formed in 1976 in Gainesville, Florida. The band's forerunner was the group Mudcrutch, created by Petty and future Heartbreakers Mike Campbell and Benmont Trench. The band did not last long, and the three parted ways until 1975 when, along with new members Ron Blair and Stan Lynch, they grouped together for another try. The band released Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers, their self-titled debut album, in 1976. The album sold poorly until the band went on tour in support of it in England. The album took off in the UK, and success soon followed in the United States.

Their next album, 1978's You're Gonna Get It!, was the band's first top forty hit and their first album to go gold. The success of the group's albums fluctuated over the next 20 years, with some albums, such as 1979's Damn the Torpedos, which included the duet "Insider" with Fleetwood Mac's Stevie Nicks, and 1991's Into the Great Wide Open. Others, like 1982's Long After Dark and 1987's Let Me Up (I've Had Enough), did not generate as many sales. Petty and the Heartbreakers' last album was The Last DJ in 2002.

When performing on tour, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers have been joined by artists such as Stevie Nicks, Bob Dylan, and the Grateful Dead. Tom Petty concerts are popular, so get your Tom Petty tickets today and enjoy the show!
