About the Blue Jays

Home Stadium: Rogers Centre

Opened:1989
Seating Capacity:49,260
Address:One Blue Jays Way
Toronto, ON, CA M5V 1J3

The Toronto Blue Jays came into Major League Baseball during the 1977 season, when the league decided to expand by two teams, the Blue Jays and the Seattle Mariners. Since their inception, the Jays have played as part of the American League Eastern Division and have won the division title five times in franchise history. They are the only MLB team located in Cananda after the Montreal Expos left for the Washington D.C. in 2005.

Although the Blue Jays have not had a lot of success in their history, they did have a three-year stretch as good as any team could hope for. From 1991 to 1993, the team won more than 90 games each season, winning the AL East each time. Although they lost in the American League Championship Series in 1991, losing to the eventual champion Minnesota Twins, the Jays were able to win the AL pennent in both 1992 and 1993. In each of those seasons, the team was able to bring a championship back to Toronto, most memorably when Joe Carter hit a series-ending, walk-off home run in 1993 to win the World Series.

The team is now trying to rebuild that past glory and have had plenty of great players along the way including Roy Halladay, Carlos Delgado, Vernon Wells and currently, Jose Bautista. In the 2012 offseason the Blue Jays made a blockbuster trade and brought a solid group of players to add to the roster including shortstop Jose Reyes, and pitchers Josh Johnson and Mark Buehrle. They are going to need all that talent to compete in a division that includes the Baltimore Orioles, Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, and Tampa Bay Rays.
