Trey Anastasio was born in Fort Worth, TX in 1964 and moved to New Jersey at a young age. After graduation from the Taft School, a preparatory school located in Connecticut, Anastasio went on to attend the University of Vermont (UVM) and Goddard College.

While attending UVM, Trey Anastasio met original Phish bandmates Jon Fishman, Mike Gordon, and Jeff Holdsworth. The group first performed together under the name Blackwood Convention at a Christmas semi-formal taking place at the university. Anastasio and Fishman ultimately transferred to Goddard college, where Anastasio created the album The Man Who Stepped into Yesterday as his senior project.

In 1988, the band began practicing rigorously and released their debut album Junta in 1989. The band released 10 albums and toured the country on a regular basis before calling it quits in 2004. Needless to say, fans were upset they could no longer purchase Phish tickets. After a five-year hiatus, the band reconciled in 2009. Since then, Phish has released two more albums, most recently Fuego in 2014.

Although Phish is Trey Anastasio’s main project, he also has had an extensive solo career, releasing 11 albums, most recently Paper Wheels in 2015. The same year, Anastasio has also performed with members of the Grateful Dead, and toured with Phish and the Trey Anastasio band.
