US Open Tickets - About US Open Tennis

As one of the most anticipated tennis tournaments all year long, the US Open in Flushing, New York, carries special significance for everyone who takes part. The tournament is one of the four Grand Slam tournaments on the United States Tennis Association tour, and maybe its most coveted. Annually held over two weeks in August and September, the US Open is the final major tournament of the year and the players involved are looking to cap their season with a win. Their motivation annually makes for an exciting couple of weeks, and US Open Tennis tickets always seem to be in short supply. Make sure to get your tickets early so you don't miss out.

The US Open began back in 1881, known then as the US National Singles Championship, and took place in Newport, RI. The tournament was exclusive for men's singles play, and it was not until 1887 that a women's US Singles Championship was created in Philadelphia. In the coming years, tournaments for men's doubles, women's doubles and mixed doubles began popping up. In 1968, all five joined together for the first time in what would become known as the "Open Era." And since 1978, people have bought US Open tickets to see the tournament take place at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, New York.

Since the "Open Era" began in 1968, there have been a lot of great champions, both men and women. Chris Evert has the most US Open Women's Tennis singles titles with six to her credit. She is one ahead of a slew of players including the namesake of the current tennis center, Billie Jean King. Jimmy Connors, Pete Sampras and most recently Roger Federer have all claimed five US Open Men's singles titles, with Federer winning his five consecutively from 2004 to 2008. Anyone who buys US Tennis Open tickets at center court will get to enter Arthur Ashe Stadium, named for one of the most beloved champions. Arthur Ashe won the inaugural US Open event in New York in 1968.
