About the Nationals

Opened:2008
Seating Capacity:41,487
Address:1500 S. Capitol Street SE
Washington, D.C. 20003

Formerly known as the Montreal Expos, the Washington Nationals joined the National League when the Expos relocated their franchise to the D.C. area in 2005. Since their relocation, the Nationals have been slowly building their franchise into a contender and in recent years have been able to construct a team of young stars including Stephen Strasburg, Bryce Harper and Gio Gonzalez. The franchise is looking build a long history of postseason history, starting with trying to win its first World Series title.

The Nationals do not have much baseball history yet, but the city of Washington D.C. certainly does. From 1901 through 1971, D.C. was home to the Washington Senators, a Major League Baseball team that seemingly had two lives. The first variation of the Senators lasted from 1901 to 1961, going to three World Series, winning the championship in 1924. After many years of losing baseball, the Senators moved to Minnesota and became the Twins. After the move, MLB awarded an expansion team to D.C. and the Senators were alive once again. Unfortunately, it didn't last long. After 10 tough seasons, including three with legend Ted Williams as manager, the Senators moved again, this time to Texas and became the Rangers.

After 35 years of no baseball, the Nationals are seemingly in D.C. for the long term.
